Computer won't recognise Garmin Edge 500

I have had the Garmin 500 for about 2 years. I have not had a problem however just in the last three months I notice my computer and other computers will not recognise it when I plug it into the USB. Sometimes it will just beep and then go to charging and other times it will indicate that loading is unsuccessful.

I have noticed a lot of others have had similar problems. I have tried a different cable, holding menu button to put into mass storage (this only resulted in it looking for drivers but the drivers are there) and holding all buttons to reset the device. Still not working. The device still operates well on the bike but I can't download anything.

Please help.
