Wrong, I've changed it from running to biking on my 45 but can't remember how ( : < ).
The thread is 6 years old so things may have changed. In my FR945 the activity selected when I start an activity is the activity that I used the last time.
I think you guys misunderstood OPs question. The FR10 has no option of selecting an activity type. All activities registered by the watch are of type "Running", so OP wanted Garmin Connect to set the type of uploaded activities to something else by default.
And since this kind of limitation applies to none of the more recent watches (since even the simplest have several sports), there is very little point in digging up this old thread
Cheers!
I have the same question in 2023 on my Garmin 220 and Garmin Connect on my iphone. I've never been able to figure out how to change the default from running to walking. I do more walking and I have to change EVERY activity every time in the app. It's getting really annoying and this should be a basic feature that is easy to access.
I replied to a thread today that is now locked, so I have to repeat it here to continue the discussion. I have a Garmin 220 and Garmin Connect on my iphone. I've never been able to figure out how to change the default from running to walking. I do more walking and I have to change EVERY activity every time in the app. It's getting really annoying and this should be a basic feature that is easy to access.
Someone replied (and then locked the thread), that my Garmin is old and it wasn't a feature then, but it is now.
The feature shouldn't be solely dictated by the device. It could easily be implemented in the Garmin Connect APP! to default ALL activity types to something besides RUNNING. I was running a lot more years ago, and now I'm mostly walking.
If garmin really wanted to be clever about it, they could obviously differentiate between walking and running based on other historical data it's already captured, or by the amount of time it takes to go the distance recorded. Who takes 50 minutes to run 3 miles? I would guess no one, and they can assume I'm walking. Conversely, who can "walk" 3 miles in 30 minutes. Clearly I'm running (and not too fast at that speed).
I'm talking about making the app better, not the device.
Newer devices got lots of activity types so you select the type right on the watch and it will be logged as that. I don't believe Garmin will make any changes to fix limitations with older devices. The selected activity type will be used and for an old Forerunner with only one activity type it will be running.
The 220 is 10 years old and it is impressive that the battery is still in that good shape so it can be used.
