40km Best - Garmin810 / Connect

Hi

I'm a bit confused and hoped someone could explain please the following?

Garmin Connect shows my best 40km average against a ride I did a few weeks ago. If I view the player stats at 24 miles I can see the time taken to that point. If I then compare the player stats for yesterday's ride of the same route, I was actually 50 seconds quicker, however Garmin Connect doesn't show yesterday's ride as my quickest 40km, and I don't know why.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
  • Was the ride from a few weeks ago ~40 km? Was yesterdays ride ~40 km?

Hi, yes both were over the same course/distance. One on the 11 July and one yesterday.
  • Well, without looking at the data, I have two possible conclusions. The first is that the ride distance for the second ride wasn't sufficiently close to 40K to be considered a 40K ride (Garmin claims that the automatic PR detection only works if the entire activity distance is very close the the target distance, so if one activity is 40.8K and the other is 41.2K, the second one might not be considered for PR status because it was outside the 'valid' range for a 40K). The second is that Garmin Connect isn't updating PRs, either because it is broken or because it doesn't overwrite PRs for some reason.

    Thanks for the response.

The ride length was about 50k so I can only assume it's something else. It's always updated PRs, so I guess it must be broken. I wish I knew, as it makes me question the value in an 810 if it's less reliable than my mapmyride app.

    Thanks again for the response
  • FYI, this information can be found by clicking the help icon on the Personal Records page...

    What is a Personal Record?
Whether you call it a personal record or a personal best, it's a way to measure your milestones.

How does Garmin Connect determine a Personal Record?
Personal Records are created when you upload data that closely matches one of our predetermined distances, and it's the fastest time you've ever uploaded for that distance.

You don't have to exactly match a distance, but it must be close. (For example, a Half Marathon Personal Record may be created if your activity is 13.2 miles.)

Connect only scans for a Personal Record the first time an activity is uploaded, so an edited activity won't be listed as a Personal Record.

Thanks, but that's the disappointing thing - the personal records page is not updating to reflect what was a quicker 40km ride.
  • My PB for 40km is part of a 124km ride. This, IMO, is how cycling records should work - you shouldn't have to be on a 40ish km ride.

Are you sure that GC is taking the 40km over the first 40km? Is it possible that there is a 40km section in your 50km ride that was actually faster on the first of the two rides? What are your time, moving time and elapsed time for the two?

    Daft

Yesterday my Garmin gave me an award for the fastest 40K. This morning it's gone - I edited the name of the ride. Not too bothered about the award, just irritated by Garmin's half arsed approach to software.
  • Personal Records appear to be broken

    Please see this thread: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?364192-Personal-records-are-not-updated

It looks like Garmin has broken the PR functionality a little.

Yea, it's unfortunate. I've only had my Garmin watch for a few months and the Garmin connect software is so finicky. The PR's must've broke big time over the weekend...Ironically, I was looking at Suunto watches that were on sale.
