After lengthy use of 910XT and GC, in all 3 sports, swim, bike, run, as well being a professional swim coach and working with swimmers and triathletes, I find at least one feature in GC that relates to swim metrics that needs to be changed. I will also give reasons why.
While the 910XT shows average pace data screen in min:sec/100y or 100m which ever pool swim is selected, GC shows average pace for swim workout in min/mi after the workout is downloaded.
All the coaching, pace assigning and pace checks with athletes are conducted in format of min:sec/100, it would be far more useful to display in GC in that particular format. Showing swim pacing in run pacing format, as it is in current form, is not optimum nor productive.
Particularly, open water swim pacing is greatly affected by the same issue. Furthermore, FINA and USA Swimming, as well as all other Worlds governing bodies of the sport of swimming use meters do designate the open water swim courses. The same is correct for the ITU, as well as USA Triathlon, where these watches are most widely used. It would be prudent that we convert our GC pacing metric for average swim pace per workout to the format of min:sec:tenths/ 100m and use metric system only for open water.
This would make the coaching job much easier.
