Ignore rest intervals in run stats (distance, pace, cadence)?

I've created multiple workouts that include a rest interval. At the end of the workout, those rest intervals are included in stats like total distance, average pace/cadence, etc.

Is there a way to have that rest period not included? I'm typically walking during rest periods, but I don't want them to affect my "run" stats. I notice in the workout builder there are other step types like cool down, recovery, etc. Would any of those be a better fit?

Thanks!

Also, how can I change my username so it is _not_ my email address? I don't see anywhere in my profile the ability to do that. And a quick forum search seems to indicate forum admins have to do that.

As for your rest/recovery/warm up/cool down being included in your workout, that is how it is supposed to work. The rest/recovery steps are part of the prescribed workout, so they should be counted. Typically a workout would have work intervals at varying paces (say 400m @ 1:15, then 800m @ 2:35, then 1600m @ 5:20), so you can't really use the average pace or cadence data for the entire workout for anything useful. You can, however, use the average data for each lap split to compare with similar intervals.

If you really want to eliminate the rest steps from your stats, you can either stop your watch by pressing Start/Stop, press Lap to end the rest/recovery period, and then press Start/Stop to manually start the next interval when you're ready. You will have to be standing where you stopped the watch when you start it back up if you want to avoid having the distance you walked included in the stats, and no matter what you do, one of the three time measurements (and therefore one of the three pace measurements) will always be off since it measures real time not just the time that the watch was actively recording your intervals.
  • Thanks Travis.

    All of that makes sense.
  • In case this is still valid...

Set up the workout to specify laps for run, recovery, warm up etc for each lap as required. Do the workout then on the activity page select intervals and then 'run' to get specific specs for each rep AND the total or average for all.

I was in the same situation as Alex and wasn't happy with the answer given by Travis (it was accurate but sadly not what I wanted). Your reply helped me a lot, thanks!

  • Thanks, that's the answer. (Too bad "Personal Records" are likely still calculated on the total recorded time of the event.)

Do as suggested - use the Stop/Resume or the Auto-Stop functionality, and the rest times will not be included.
