How to edit a route?

I've just been for a MTB cycle and saved a new route as a course. I am trying to edit the course now to make it longer but this seems to be an impossible task.

If I click on the bit I want to lengthen GC when just randomly joins up 2 points together. Ive got stay on road deselected. I've inserted a marker and then clicked a new point where I want the next marker to be and then it all goes haywire.

Is there a correct way to edit courses or am I missing something? Tried Google maps and OSM. I don't want to start planning the course from scratch. If GC is not up to the job is there something else that will work?
  • I have the same problem so would also like an answer. Courses seem impossible to edit. I end up rebuilding the course from scratch which is a faff and waste of time as some of my courses are quite long and complicated.
  • It isn't all that bad, but it appears that something changed recently which makes it more difficult than it was previously. Note that I'm using Chrome. The behavior may vary for different browsers...

In the course editor, if you mouse over the existing course line, you'll see the icon change from a crosshair to a hand with the index finger out. If you move along the course, eventually you'll see a white dot appear. Once the dot appears, left-click the mouse. Now you can drag that point to wherever you want.

If you just click in the map, you are telling the course editor to add the click point to the end of the existing route.
