ANT stick no longer being recognized by Windows 8

Hi!

I have a Forerunner 310xt. I use Garmin Express & since switching to Garmin Express to download my workouts, I haven't had any problems. Until today. My ATM is now saying "USB device not recognized" when I insert it into the USB port. I have done all of the following to try & fix this problem:

1. Uninstalled Garmin Express, reinstalled Garmin Express, restarted the computer (also, turned the computer off & took out the battery on another try) & same error came up;
2. Uninstalled Garmin Express, uninstalled all USB related processes, reinstalled Garmin Express, restarted and turned off the computer & same error message;
3. Made sure I had all of the latest Windows updates, restarted & turned off computer & same error message.

I'm afraid my ANT stick is damaged, but if not, is there anything else I can try to make it work?

Thanks!

    Slightly different issue:

    Win 8 reports that the ANT USB device is present and that the driver is installed correctly, and that the device is working.

    However, when trying to connect to the device from an application the application reports that the ANT device is "busy" as it world report if Garmin Agent was using it, but in this (and other cases on Win7) the Gramin agent has either been stopped or was not installed at all. So it appears that the driver is reporting "busy" when it shouldn't be.

    Is there another primitive in the ANT suite that should be used to re-initialise the USB stick?

    My software tries to instantiate the device handlers as the test to check the ANT stick using antstick = New ANT_managed_Library.ANT_Device()

    This works on XP, Vista, some WIN 7 systems and some WIN 8 systems (my business associates Win 8 but not mine, very odd).

    I've tried a few other options as workarounds with no success.

    Ideas much appreciated - thanks Rob
