Corrupt File?

I had a long (12 hour+) workout on Saturday the 12th. After finishing the ANT Agent picked up my Garmin and appeared to upload the workout. After it said it was done I went to review the data and it's not showing up. I've tried a number of different ways to get it to upload. 1. Created a very short 10" workout in hopes that when the ANT Agent uploaded it, it would also upload the previous workout. 2. Go through the various upload options by selecting "Upload" at the top right corner of the Garmin Connect site. If I go through the "upload all new activities" option it just shows that it's upoading for hours and never finishes. 3. Tried manually uploading but I don't know how to get the file off the watch in order to be able to browse for it. 4. Tried actually plugging the watch into the computer via the charger cord in hopes that it would show up in my Windows Explorer but it didn't.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Thanks in advance.

Attach the corrupt .fit? file in a reply to this message and I will see if I can repair it using the Fit File Repair Tool.

    cheers

  • Look for the file in the ANT Agent's activities folder. If you look at this article, it describes where the history folder is. If you go up one folder, you should see the activities folder. You might find the activity file you are looking for in there.

If you find it, attach it to a reply as mentioned above. Someone may be able to fix it. Once you have the fixed file, you should probably delete the problem file from your Garmin device.

Attached is the .fit file. I was able to upload the .fit file into Training Peaks but it only shows up about half the actual duration.

    Hi 23scadoo,

Would I be correct in the assumption that this was a session done on a wind trainer? It would certainly explain the GPS data that doesn't seem to have you moving very far distance wise!

Unfortunately I don't have a lot of good news for you insofar as your .fit file only contains data values for 6hrs21min of your session. Fit File Repair Tool also reported that the session ended abruptly as can be seen in this pic and that data records at the end of the recording are probably missing.

From a discussion I had with another 910XT user whose .fit file I was able to repair, he stated at the end of a session that the correct sequence was to press the 'stop' button followed by pressing and holding the 'lap/reset' button. This is the same sequence as my Edge800 and it ensures that all of the data records are recorded in the .fit file prior to the unit shutting down. If you followed this sequence then I am sorry but I am not sure what happened.

    Your 'repaired' file is here.

    cheers

Thanks for your help. I can't tell you whether I stopped the watch and then hit reset. That's the way that I always do it so I would assume that I did it this time as well. This is data that I'd like to have but it's not disastrous if it lost it. I think that I need to hard reset my Garmin anyway because I've had some other files have issue transferring.
