I had some problems with connect a few months back, it was trying to force me to switch to the modern version and when i did there was a message saying that 305's were not supported, has this changed?

The Garmin Express release notes indicate that changes were made specifically for the FR305 and Edge 305. They don't explicitly state that support was added for those devices, but it really doesn't make sense to add something to the release notes for a device that isn't supported (unless they say the device isn't supported).
