How to add a custom field to Acitivity Details

Garmin Connect / Edge 510 - is there a way to add a new custom field to the activity details? Or maybe add new values to the Activity Type or Event Type?
I'm looking to further breakdown and report rides into Hills / Flats / etc.
If so, how do it create that field in Garmin Connect and also transfer to the Edge 510?
