My rides are over 30 miles and 3,000 ft. of elevation, but the calorie numbers are always below 1,000, this doesn't seem very accurate, anyone know why?
Thanks
The other thing is that none of these numbers are very reliable. They're estimates, not measurements. For example, Saturday, I went 38.1 miles on my mountain bike with 3900 ft of climbing (I wimped out on another 700), in 3:39. My calorie counts from the various sites/software I use: 1951 (Garmin Connect/Edge 800), 2298 (RunKeeper), 2470 (Strava), 2995 (RubiTrack), 3011 (Ascent). None of these sites/software are trying to lie to me; all of them use some algorithm obtained from who knows where based on who knows what actual measurements based on the information that's recorded by my Edge 800, probably mostly relying on heart rate. The spread is about 30%, which is typical. 500-600 calories per hour is entirely reasonable. Yesterday I did 30 miles on the road, with only 1100 ft of climbing, and my 800 said 929 Calories.
