Unable to upload data from Garmin 310XT

Hi Folks

All of a sudden I am unable to upload any of my Garmin activities from my 310XT. It was all working fine then all of a sudden when I go to upload the "bar" comes up where it reads the activities and it just hangs.

Has anyone had any similar issues or more importantly if so what is the fix for this?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers
  • When you say you go to upload, are you clicking the Upload button from the upper-right corner of the classic Garmin Connect... i.e., the button on this page? If yes, have you recently installed Garmin Express? If yes, then this is the problem.

The Garmin Express software isn't compatible with the Garmin Communicator Plugin. Since Garmin is phasing out support for the Communicator Plugin, it might be best to try to get things working with Garmin Express. If you don't do it now, it is likely that you'll have to do so at some point in the future.

If you do opt to try to get Garmin Express working...

    • Disconnect your Garmin device and the ANT+ dongle.
    • Uninstall all Garmin software (Communicator Plugin, ANT Agent, Garmin Express, Windows Driver Package, ...)
    • Just to be sure that everything is cleaned up, restart your computer.
    • Once your computer has restarted, rename the remaining Garmin folders so that when we re-install Garmin Express it is a clean install and doesn't use any cached data on your computer.
      • Locate the folder used by the ANT Agent/Communicator Plugin and rename it (post describes where to find the folder). Be sure you are renaming the Garmin folder, not the History folder that lies within.
      • Locate the folder used by Garmin Express and rename it (post describes where to find the folder. Again, be sure you are renaming the Garmin folder, not the Upload folder that lies within.
      • It might not hurt to verify that all of the Garmin folders that remain are renamed/deleted. On a Windows PC, press WIN+R, type cmd and click OK. Then type the following to get a listing of all of the Garmin folders that remain.
        c:
        cd \
        dir /s /b Garmin

On a Mac running OSX, start Terminal. Then type the following to get a listing of all of the Garmin Folders that remain.
        find / -name Garmin -print

      • For each of the folders found, rename them

    • Now install Garmin Express. You can download it from here.
    • Don't connect your Garmin device yet.
    • Start Garmin Express.
    • Click the gear icon in the application title bar.
    • Look to the bottom of the page. You should see a section entitled About Garmin Express. Below this is a link that reads Check for Application Updates. Click that link to be sure you have the latest version. If it turns out an update is available, install it. As of this morning, the latest version appears to be 3.2.13.0.
    • Start Garmin Express if it isn't running.
    • On the left you should see a dropdown box. Click the down arrow and choose Add New Device.
    • Follow the directions to pair your device. Note that you might need to follow the ANT+ troubleshooting tips to get the device to pair.
    • Once your device is properly paired, you might want to have the device transfer all of the workout history so that you don't lose any data. You should be able to go to History > Transfer All on your device to do this.
    • Once you've got it all working, go back and locate the folders you renamed in the steps above. You can delete them now.
