Privacy bubble over home address

How about a Strava like privacy bubble over your home address so no-one can see where you live if you start your rides from home. The standard Garmin Privacy settings are too limited. They are on or off you have no control over who can see where you live. Until this happens all my rides are private and I will continue to use Strava for day to day functions and will ONLY use Garmin as cloud storage for my ride files.

The ability to set privacy zones would be excellent,

I would like to see this too.....
  • I think it is just false security. Most people looking to rob your home are not going to go to Garmin Connect to see when you come and go. They are just going to drive around your neighborhood and look for opportunity. If it's mugging you are worried about, then same thing.... they'll wait till they see someone that looks vulnerable. Any such reports you find on it are the media sensationalized exception to the norm.
  • Voiceresponse I'm not so concerned with someone targeting my bike for theft or other specific threats, I just don't want my home address and work address so publicly and easily accessible.
  • I don't think people will use Garmin Connect to cross reference an address with your user ID. What would be the point. Besides, how many apps do you have location service allowed on your smartphone? Even if you keep your phones gps turned off most of the time, when it's enabled, your data is known to cyberspace. You'd be surprised how many phone apps use location information. I even had a game of spider solitaire that wanted location services. I found another.
  • I don't think people will be cross checking either, but they can and I don't want them to be able to. It's not google or the taxi booking app I'm interested in here, it's the ability for someone, if they chose, to do some pretty detailed analysis using my bike riding of exactly what I get up to. I'm not paranoid about it, and I'm happy for you to put your rides out there, I just won't publish my rides until my home and work addresses are left out.
  • In the same boat. I like where Connect is going, but until they offer a privacy bubble all rides are private. Hope they do it soon. I don't think its paranoia to not want to advertise on the web *exactly* where one lives or works. I was glad to see Strava add it.
  • Until it changes I'm storing on Connect, publishing on Strava. Been doing it for years. Good advertising for the competitor.

+1 on a privacy bubble. I don't want someone to see I run on XYZ days at approximately X:00pm and come jump me for my phone or worse. I live in a city there's wacko's out there. There are also wacko's on the internet that will cross reference your home/work information to make threats against you as evidenced by recent threats made against journalists.
