Forerunner 310XT problems uploading data since move to Garmin Connect

I have recently reluctantly moved away from Training Center to upload my activities via Garmin Connect. However I have several problems that I cannot fix despite doing all the checks suggested on the website
a) The device will not upload today's activity data (first time it has done this)
b) Garmin Connect is trying to upload data from two dates that are already showing on the activity list! It seems to try uploading indefinitely but gets nowhere!
c) When I go back to using Training Center and ask it to import from the device, it says there are 17 activities waiting to be transferred but if I ask to do so, nothing happens and the message keeps coming up every time I ask for a data transfer

Any ideas please? NB not sure if relevant but I have also just updated the firmware and had to do a hard reset as the device stopped functioning!
  • It seems that the modern Garmin Connect only works well with the current software. If you are trying to switch over to Garmin Connect, you have to commit. Apparently Garmin Express tries to look at the files that were produced by the old software. Unfortunately this seems to lead to more problems that it was intended to solve. To increase chances of success, you should completely remove all vestiges of the old software (ANT Agent, Communicator, Training Center, ...) including the hidden folders that they create (you can just rename the folders if you don't want to lose the data), and then install Garmin Express, pair your device, and then try using it.

Hi thanks for the advice. It has partially worked! We uninstalled everything and reinstalled, so now I can download my data, but the device seems to hang when doing this (device shows Transferring Data and stays like this indefinitely). The only way we have found to shift it is to do a soft reset which works but is a bit of a pain to do every time! Any other ideas please?
  • It sounds like you may have a corrupt file on the device.

Are you using the most recent version of Garmin Express? Instructions to update are here. If you have all of your activity data off of the device, you could do a master reset. Instructions to do that are here.

If you do opt to do a master reset, I'd take the time to write down all of the settings on your device (what fields you have on each training page, that kind of thing). This makes it much simpler to get the device back to a familiar state before your next workout.

Thanks Travis, yes we have already done a master reset and have the latest version of Garmin Express but I guess we could do another reset!
