Missing Map after tonight run

I've just uploaded my run from tonight and it uploads via Express without any problems but when I look at the activity I have no route map. Only the pace, mile splits etc.

How can I get the map data visible on Garmin Connect??

Im using a 305 which I only store the last 3 months worth of data on it at a time, so it hasnt run out of space.

I'm using a PC and Garmin Express to upload.
  • Can you share a link to the activity here?
  • It looks like the activity file didn't have any GPS position data in it. I'm not sure why this would happen, but you might want to locate the .fit (or .tcx) file on your computer and re-upload it to Garmin Connect.
  • Hi,
How can I locate the .fit file?
Is there a way to access the garmin as if it was a disk?

    Thanks,
    Owain.
  • I didn't carefully read your post and I see now that you are using a Forerunner 305. I don't believe that the 305 uses .fit files and I'm not certain that Garmin Express makes backups of the files like it would for an ANT+ device (like the 910XT).

If you are using Garmin Express, you might check the folders documented in article. There is a chance that the files are in there somewhere, but you'll have to look around for them.

  • Annoyingly it's happened again!

Will need to dig about the files and see if I can fix this.
  • How do I report this issue to Garmin - I've just uploaded another workout and again, no map.

    I've had a look in C:\ProgramData\Garmin\GarminConnect\DeviceUnitID\Upload but I don't have a GarminConnect folder.
  • Use the contact information here.

It sounds like you may be having trouble with your device. They'll probably ask you to do a master reset on the device.
  • Contacted the support team and although I was told I would get a reply within 3 working days, 5 days later, still nothing.

Yesterday's run which was an 18 mile run only recorded as a 6.5 mile run, even though all the laps are on Connect. To say I'm annoyed is an understatement.

Don't want to reset my watch until I'm told too, just incase they can fix the issue but it's looking like I might not get a choice.

Understood. If you want to wait for Garmin to get back to you, then by all means, go right ahead and wait; just stop expecting this using this device as the only record of your activities. At this point you've lost data from at least three workouts. If your data is important to you (your frustration seems to indicate that it is), then you must do something fix the problem or at the very least do something to avoid the expected data loss that occurs. Maybe the local bike shop or a friend has a unit that you can borrow for a week. Perhaps you could call Garmin and speak to a support person. Just waiting isn't going to solve anything.

Another thing that you might try would be to read the posts over in the Forerunner 305 forums and see if others are having similar problems. If not, then chances are good that it is isolated to your device. If this is the case, one of the first things that Garmin support is going to recommend you do... master reset. A fifteen minute phone call during a lunch break would get you that far, and at least you'd have a chance that the problem will go away.
