Lost data in Ant+ as download Gamin Express uninstalled Ant+

Hi
I transferred data from my Forerunner 310XT via Ant+ and then a note came up to say the data could not be uploaded to Garmin as the internet connection was not connected.
I connected the internet and logged into Garmin connect, the modern version, and it suggested I download Garmin Express which I proceeded to do. One of the steps explained that if I click on 'Install' it would uninstall Ant+.
In doing so I think I might have lost the data that I had just transferred before I got a chance to upload it into Garmin Connect.
Today I did my first Sprint Triathlon and I think I might have lost it.

Please let me know if you have any possible solutions?
Regards
Ray

I will try to help you...

    Hi Ray,:p

Just noticed you're post in the forum and said i'd respond -always a good place to start. But you already know that Im working on it as we speak!!

If you search for all files on your computer by typing *.FIT in the search menu (note the star) you should find your most recent data file.

Don't worry - it cant have completely disappeared. It may even have uploaded the file to your online profile so have a look at that too....

Talk to you in a few mins...:D

System restore is great if its enabled! Especially in cases such as your one Ray!

I'll let you fill in the gaps about how your retrieved your data from today's Triathlon.

    Well done by the way!

    Thanks Ger.
I am very relieved to get my 1st Sprint Triathlon Data back.
For anyone else that may need this advice:
I had to reinstall the old Ant+ software and it was able to retrieve the data to Garmin-connect.
Before this I restored my computer to a point before the Ant+ was uninstalled by the new Garmin Express installation programme.

    Thanks again Ger.
    Regards
    Ray
  • You shouldn't have had to restore/reinstall anything. The data files downloaded from your device by the ANT Agent are cached on your computer. The location of said files depends on your operating system, but for a Windows system it would usually be in C:\Users\<UserName>\ApplicationData\Garmin. All you had to do was locate those files and manually upload/import them to Garmin Connect.

But that's easier said than done - if you don't know where the data is stored in the first place!

Thanks for your late but really unhelpful input. It would have been useful when the thread was opened?

I've never used the software in question and this was the quickest solution after Ray had spent hours trying to get access to his data. He didn't have the time to read through forums, I did ask him where the data file was stored but as he is not a computer technician (I am) he was not sure what I was talking about. At least we know for future reference where the data is stored.

It was just quicker and easier to do it this way - he was only restoring 1 hour back - to a point earlier in the evening when the update was installed - also there was no risk of loosing any data - as system restore does not delete data. It was working properly until he installed the update. I was helping him over the phone and he was not getting a reply from anyone here. I basically registered an account here as I wanted to find a solution but given it was almost 12.00am time was ticking....

No problem. Considering that the location of the files used by ANT Agent was covered in many threads since February this entire thread was entirely unnecessary... As was your most recent response.

I responded to help out future readers of this thread, not necessarily to help you and Ray. Hopefully they'll get to my post and realize that they don't have to use system restore or re-install any software.
