Oregon 600. Whats the point of it?

Hi,

I'm feeling a little short changed.

I have just bought an oregon 600 with OS discoverer 50:1 maps for a not in-significant £360. My intention was to use it for navigating byways and other unpaved routes etc whilst mountain biking. I cannot however see where my money has been spent. It appears that this unit cannot navigate on anything other than normal A,B,C roads. If this is the case then it offers nothing more than a £3.50 Android App (Viewranger) or basic £100 Garmin automotive satnav. Both of which can do the same things with the correct maps.

I have set the mountain biking profile with the following: Lock Road - Off, Route Preference - Shorter distance, Road avoidance's;Interstates, Major Highways, State Highways, Feature avoidance's: U-Turns, Ferries, Cable Cars.

I have saved POI's in the middle of Byways and used them as a Via points however the unit simply navigates up to them, U-turns and then proceeds to navigate around on main roads despite the byway being the shortest route.

I really hope I am missing something here. Has anyone used the 600 for a similar purpose and If so did you achieve what I am trying to achieve?

Apologies for the negativity in my post. I can't help but feel disappointed.

Thanks
