Segment feature on Garmin Connect?

For the last few days I have been getting a message on connect saying the segment feature is unavailable due to popularity until capacity can be increased. Understandable issues occur, but how long will it take to resolve, this is a great feature and it is disappointing to lose for an extended period of time, sure you can upload to strava but have been getting into this garmin feature with friends recently.

It would be great if someone put a timeframe on, just buy some cloud CPU and space, how hard can it be!

Couldnt agree more - what is going on Garmin? All I seem to be able to see if I upload a file is the time it took, distance and the times for each lap and the .tcx file is just lap splits without the full info?

Pretty hacked as also only using an old watch that can't sync straight to Strava because my 'good' one is broken and in line for repair or replacemant (I hope?) as its been driving me mad with a flaky battery for months

    Very disappointing

    When is this getting resolved

I am using( been using?) Garmin Connect only because I was able to see my segments.
If there are no segments mo reason for me to use Garmin Connect.
    Please return this feature ASAP!

i do not even know how to see, create and manage segmens. I'm still on the old garmin connect release, waiting to be promted to the new one.
    There is a kinda tutorial??
  • I just cannot see how to create a Segment.

Either on classic Connect or the new version. Instructions say that there is a 'Create Segment' under the map in an activity. It is just not there.

I am using a Macbook with Safari - I find it hard to believe that Garmin do not configure for Macs.

Does anyone else have the same problem - and is there a solution?

    Thanks
  • I have had instances in Safari, Firefox, Chrome and I.E. where tools or commands for certain functions didn't show up. Surprisingly clearing the cache and cookies on each of the browsers fixed the issue. May not be an issue with the newer versions of each browser, but might be worth trying to see if it solves yours. FWIW, it was not Garmin Connect I was having the issue with.

Of course I'm assuming there is a command on one of the new GC's pages to allow you to create a segment that maybe your browser is not showing. On some of the other sites, to create a segment, you just create a course. I don't know, I'm using GC less and less, and certainly don't care to use the new GC at this time.
  • I think I have found the answer, though it is not good. It is nothing to do with the browser or machine.

Creating segments appears to only work for Running and Cycling. I am a race walker and record all my activities as 'Speed Walking' and cannot see any way to create segments.

I edited one of my activities to 'Running' and can then see the create segments button under the map.

So it appears that Garmin only cater for runners and cyclists - the tens of thousands of race walkers who use Garmin cannot create segments - and neither can we input 'Personal Records' - they also only work for runners and cyclists.

Surely it would only need a small tweak to include Speed Walking (and other non-running or cycling sports) to have the ability to create segments and personal records.

Does anyone from Garmin actually read these forums?

So it is back to Strava, using CopymySport - as the perfectly functioning conversion from Garmin to Strava disappeared two months ago.

Come on Garmin - support the hundreds of thousands non-cyclists and runners who use your product.

    Same here...this is very poor.

I probably have 20 workouts stored on my watch....

  • please Garmin.. just work with strava... together you can dominate. Garmin Segments is a major FAIL.

I see no current way to create a segment.. so a major feature of my edge 1000 is useless... thanks.

    Hey Garmin,

Can you please turn off the message about Segments if they are back up? It's useless. "Segments are back up and running, although we are still making improvements. It may take a few days to process the segments you crossed or created."
  • But ... are they back?
Can someone help me (I haven't found the solution on the forum after spending a long time trawling through messages)?: In Garmin connect, I used to be able to save an existing activity as a course and this saved the laps that I manually introduced on the way. (I assume that the edge 500 "laps" are the same as "segments"?). Then, I used to be able to run the course and my Edge 500 (with the autolap option on) was able to detect the laps and make the corresponding splits that i could then compare using Garmin connect.
Now, it seems that whenever I save an activity (with laps) as course, the laps/splits are not saved.
Also, I used to have an option in Garmin connect player to visualize the splits on the map. not any more, it seems...
I haven't been using my Edge, or this forum for many months, so, maybe the solution is somewhere in this forum. Could someone nicely point me to the releveant thread?
    many thanks!
