Segments are down!

"Due to increased popularity, the segment feature is currently down so we can increase capacity. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

To that all I have to say is really? You didn't anticipate popularity with your capacity planning? LOL

And the server and app team should be able to come up with a load balanced, clustered solution that eliminates downtime for increasing capacity. You should be able to do it on the fly.

Hopefully this feature will be back up soon and with a better architecture to support future growth. :)
  • You should be able to see average pace for each lap of an activity in the activity history. Assuming you've set auto lap to 1mi, you would have average pace for each mile.

I only checked out segments when I started to see this message. I was previously unaware. It seems very interesting to me.

And..... mine appears to be working. Are they fixed? The message is still there!
  • The message I see now is: "Segments are back up and running, although we are still making improvements. It may take a few days to process the segments you crossed or created."

Not all of mine have populated yet. Some were created 2 weeks ago and still don't show any ranks. And some of the older ones show they were edited on 7/2/2014 so I guess they transitioned everything and are reprocessing all of them.

None of my segments have updated since the 17th June. I Hope they update soon as it's driving me insane especially as I have been purposely trying to beat several segments..!!

Another very important question for the Garmin developers is WILL SEGMENTS EVER RETROSPECTIVELY CONSIDER ALL MY RIDES WHERE I'VE PASSED THROUGH THEM??? I have over two years of ride activity on Garmin Connect, yet none of my rides prior to June this year show me as having passed through any segments, which I know exist. I created a couple of segments two weeks ago on a climb that I've ridden many times. Although it has compiled leaderboards they only reflect rider's times in the last two months! This is a real pity because my best time up this climb was done last June!

I appreciate this must be a lot of data crunching and processing, but for heaven's sake! They've just launched the Edge 1000, a key feature of which is segment tracking. You'd think they'd have nailed all this beforehand. COME ON GARMIN!
  • I hope they do start crunching back further than they have. Some of my segments were also from last year.

All of my segments are now updated.
