Garmin connect not uploading rides

Got my edge 800, went for a ride, went on to garmin connect to upload ride and it just says

"Reading activities from Removable Disk (F:\), please wait..."

And that's it. I tried to upload it twice, each time gave it an hour and it still says this.

How long does a ride take to upload? Surely not over an hou

there is a known issue with trying to upload activities from an SD card - it just doesn't work!

the best thing you can do, it upload it as a 'Manual Upload' or if you are using a Windows machine then using Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) copy the activity from the SD card (which would be the F:/ drive onto the main storage on the Edge800 and try uploading it to GC.
