Segment is not updating

I created a segment last Friday (20/06/14) http://connect.garmin.com/modern/segment/659DEBB40A994C079583C999BE6A6AD2 , but 3 days after it was with the same message "The leaderboard is still being created for this segment. Please check back later."

Today (23/06/14), I edited the segment but nothing has changed!

I have at least a dozen of activities going through this segment, but none are being displayed. All my activities are public:

  • I'm not certain about this, but the GPS data for the first activity indicates that you turned right off of Estrada Alto da Serra at Caminho Para O Cristo, and you shouldn't have, and the track near the start of the segment is all over the place. The second activity shows long stretches with no GPS data. You can see lines segments between GPS points that are cutting off entire corners. The third activity looks pretty close, but the fourth looks to have a bad GPS fix as well.

I don't know what Garmin's tolerance for deviation from the specified course is, but they have to have some tolerance to determine if a GPS track is on course or not. Given the data I'm seeing at least three of those activities aren't very good matches for the segment.

That said, I'm curious if Strava would pick up on these. I'm wondering if Garmin doesn't allow sufficient course deviation to accurately decide which activities are on track and which are not.

  • Travis,

Tks for the comments! I agree with most of them, but the fact is that I created the segment from one those activities and even not this one is updated on the segment page... http://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/524929415
  • I do know that Strava has a mechanism by which you can ask it why an activity didn't match a given segment. This would be really useful.
