"This activity did not cross any favorite / other segments."

I have
1) Created a route in Garmin Connect (http://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/6604131)
2) Created segments from that route in Garmin Connect (for example, http://connect.garmin.com/modern/segment/14A618CA19EE4886BBEC7F1148360B76)
3) Uploaded this route to my Edge 810
3) Ridden (and followed) this route using my Edge 810 (http://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/526732009)

Yet the activity report shows that "This activity did not cross any favorite segments."
It also says that "This activity did not cross any other segments."

I regularly ride this route. Previous activity reports either have no segment data at all, or do not show all segments (this route has 4 segments in total)

I cannot comprehend how it is possible that Garmin cannot match a segment created on their own website, to a route created on their own website, and tracked by a device that they themselves have manufactured?!?

Other websites (Strava, Ride With GPS, Endomondo, etc) all do this without a problem, using tracking from devices that they did not manufacture. They are also able to upload ride data directly, using only their websites - no other software required (e.g. Garmin Express). What is Garmins' excuse?

If someone could explain this to me, as if I were a four-year-old, that would be great.....

Thank you. Rant over.

Philip.

    Not entirely true.
For devices that don't appear to a computer as USB storage (those that use ANT+ like the Forerunner series), those websites require that you use some software to get the activity data off of your device and onto your computer. Once you have the data on your computer, all of these sites (including Garmin Connect) allow you to upload/import it directly.

Any new information on this thread?

I am observing the same issues with the FR605. On the surface, it looks like this is related to the density of the GPS data uploaded to Garmin on technical routes and the margin of error afforded to the segment matching when comparing a run to a segment. While the watch “distance” might be accurate, the plotted course on Connect is choppy. It looks like it is using the 5s GPS locations even if smart recording is turned on. This can easily miss a couple turns even on a run.

I do hope that Garmin improves the segment matching.

While I have seen an improvement, there are still problems with segments being recognised as having been ridden - my route to work has been broken into 4 segments. Only 2 or 3 of them show up under 'favourite'. None show up under 'other'...... :(
  • Same Problem here. I have created a Segment on my own data, loaded it up to my edge 810. I rode the same course again with the segment on it. The edge 810 regognized it and took a new time on the leaderboard. As I load up the data to garmin-connect, the server couldn't match the new data to the segment. Not even ssome days later. I hope, garmin will fix this matching-Problem as soon as possible.
