An error occurred with your upload. - Garmin Connect > Upload > Manual Upload (.gpx)

When I use the manual upload button in Garmin Connect I get the following error message.

An error occurred with your upload. Please try again.

I don't think I have ever been able to successfully upload a GPX file to Garmin Connect but can't be 100% sure, but I am sure I'm not doing something wrong, it should be fairly simple steps... click upload > manual upload > select your gpx file > then click upload activities from file - the Garmin Connect dialog says "We currently support .tcx .gpx and .fit files."

I've gone around in circles in the forums and online looking for information but not found anything that resolved the problem for me. Onc suggestion was to modify the GPX file header but not sure exactly what changes would help.

Does Garmin acknowledge if there is a problem with the manual upload feature?

    Another problem:
    - why is my email address displayed as my forum user name?

I don't see any settings where I can choose a new forum user name, nor the option to delete my original post.

    Change user name

I don't have a change user name option or setting see my edit profile options screenshot below, I've checked all settings several times so can you suggest where I might find it? That would really help me, and maybe some other users that have the same problem.

  • You didn't follow the instructions listed in the linked page. Specifically, you didn't get the first step right. Perhaps the following link will make it easier for you... http://connect.garmin.com/settings/userprofile
  • As for your issues uploading a gpx/tcx file to Garmin Connect, there could be several reasons. The software that handles the import process is very picky and doesn't produce any error messages to speak of, so it is often difficult to tell why the import fails.

A common issue is that Garmin Connect only accepts activity files. It doesn't accept course files of any type. In addition, it is very picky about the header (it doesn't like the byte-order-marker to be present) and it can choke if optional fields are present in the data.

If you are having trouble, often the best course of action is to link to the activity file so that someone can get a look at it to figure out what the problem is.

I read SEILOGRAMP's message ‘Change user name’ as text but can now see it was a hyperlink to another forum post.

The GPX file I wanted to import has waypoints only and the Garmin Connect dialog says We currently support .tcx .gpx and .fit files so that’s what lead me to think the manual import of the GPX file would work. From what you’re saying Garmin Connect will only accepts a GPX file when it is an activity, so I guess that answers my forum post… thanks.

why would it tell you to try again later, if there was a format issue?  It appears Garmin just sucks at being able to make user friendly software
