Connect would like to communicate with the garmin edge

The pop-up message, "connect would like to communicate with the garmin edge" keeps flooding my iPhone whenever the Edge 1000 BT continuously connects and disconnects....frustrating. I could live with the useless message if it didn't effect anything else but whenever the phone disconnects then connects again and that stupid message appears, it pauses Pandora.

Since the request of having the BT connection stabilized by Garmin appears to be more than they can handle can they simply turn the pop-up off so at least my Pandora isn't effected by this Garmin issue?

BTW Garmin- I've been a Garmin user all the way back to the Geko 101. You should be ashamed of yourselves for rolling out the 1000 the with all the problems it is having.
  • I think you should probably have posted this in the Edge 1000 forum. That would be a more appropriate place for this discussion... Anyway, are you using the latest Edge 1000 firmware? I believe it was released yesterday. Supposedly it fixed some of the known issues.

I thought about posting in the Edge forum but the message popping up is generated by the Connect software. That's why I posted it here; the pop-up message purpose doesn't provide value in my opinion and actually creates a problem for me because it pauses Pandora.

I downloaded the firmware last night AFTER I posted. I am going to try it out today. The posts I've read do look promising. However, I still think the popup message should be written out.
  • It may well be required by Apple. This is iOS software, and they always want sandboxes and asking for permission. Some of that stuff is bleeding into Mac OS X, and it's annoying. If Garmin takes such messages out, Apple may well not let them distribute through the App Store.

I've got the Edge 1000 also and iphone 4S with latest firmware/operating system for both and the garmin connect pop up requesting permission to communicate with the garmin edge 1000 is infuriating how it pauses Pandora. I often end up not allowing it to communicate because it continually interrupts the music. It needs an "always allow" option to re-connect/re-communicate. On that note also garmin connect seems to continually drop the connection with the edge 1000. Just testing now not even on the bike and with the edge 1000 on and my phone within 6 feet of the device in the space of 5 minutes the paired garmin connect/edge 1000 lost connection 3 times. When it loses connection a duplicate edge 1000 device appears in the devices section of garmin connect with the same edge 1000 serial/device number. Not sure if its somehow perceiving the signal as being from two different devices but this issue seems to be at the heart of the constant requests to allow garmin connect to communicate with the edge 1000

I'm using the Edge 810 and similarly always get the popup on my iPhone 5 asking permission. I am not sure if it is an Apple requirement but I think not because other BT devices like speakers can auto connect when on. Garmin please have a setting to "ALWAYS ALLOW" to re-connect/recommunicate.
  • If the app could have control of the 'always allow' setting or any other security setting, then malware would be much easier to create. I'd think it more likely an issue with iOS.

Regardless, if you want Garmin to know for certain of your concern, then you need to go here ---> submit ideas to Garmin

Posting here is essentially just talking to other users. While we hope Garmin looks here to glean information about their products, we really don't know that they do.
