How to prevent autosync

Former Member

Hi all, I'm looking for a bit of help.

Up until now I have had no need to prevent Garmin Connect to automatically sync my Edge500 when I connected it via USB. Now I need to be able to keep my activities on the Edge500 so that I can upload them to my Vitality account before uploading them to Garmin Connect and then removing off my Edge500.

The questions are:

How to I prevent Garmin Connect from autosyncing when I connect via USB?

Is there anyway I can download my activities back on to my Edge500 so that I can upload to my Vitality account?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
  • Even if Garmin Express deleted the files off of your device, you can find the .fit files in C:\ProgramData\Garmin\GarminConnect\<Device> (assuming you are on a personal computer using a recent version of windows). You should be able to upload the files there to your Vitality account without any trouble.

You can prevent deletion of the files by tweaking a setting in Garmin Express. Open Garmin Express, select your device in the dropdown on the left and click the Device link on the right. On the device page, you should see the option Erase data on this device after successfully syncing near the bottom of the page. Uncheck that check box.

If you really want to prevent automatic upload, You can open up Garmin Express, click the little gear icon in the taskbar, then uncheck the option that says Automatically launch Garmin Express when a Garmin device is connected. Now close Garmin Express. Then right-click on the Garmin Express icon in the system tray and and click Exit. Finally, connect your Edge and access the files. If you want to upload your files, you'll have to launch Garmin Express manually, and you may have to click the sync button to jump start the sync process.
