No rest period in interval workouts.

I am using the heart rate Marathon 3 training program and just noticed after uploading the calendar to my Garmin 620 and selecting to do an interval workout there is no rest period included in the STEPS. The plan calls for it and when running the next interval just starts up without a rest. Am I supposed to be mindful of this and pause my watch to rest? I feel it should automatically include the rest period it calls for. Can this be updated? If not, how do I manually enter rests into the premade training plans.

frustrating.

  • I'm looking at the training plan on my Garmin Connect calendar (I just added it to answer your question) and I'm seeing rest periods where they are supposed to be. For example, W01D2b-Intervals has a 1 minute at Z2 recovery pace after each of the 5 intervals. W01D4b-Threshold Run has no rest periods explicitly called out, but the first and last 15 minute blocks are Z2, so you shouldn't be running hard.

I've never looked at these training plans, but they seem to be fouled up since the workout description (as seen by clicking the workout in the calendar) describes the rest/recovery intervals as being Z2, but the workout flow above shows Z3.3-4.2, which is way to high to be considered a recovery. Additionally, the rest/recovery steps aren't flagged as such.

If you want to modify the training plan workouts, you can do so by going to the calendar in Garmin Connect and editing them. Once you've edited them, you'll need to send them to your device again.
