Swich to Modern does not appear

Hello Garmin Team,

I'm curious why do some friends of mine who are using Garmin Connect (first one is older user than me, second-new one) do not see link Switch to Modern on the top right corner?

Thanks,
  • I am not a member of the Garmin Team, I'm just reporting what has been I have seen.

When announced, Garmin said that the modern Garmin Connect would be rolled out During Q1 2014. I believe that the rollout started a little later than expected, and there have bee a lot of issues that likely prevented the rollout from happening on time.

At this point, it appears that the rollout still is not complete. At some point, after the rollout is done, Garmin is going to disable the classic Garmin Connect entirely. At that point the transition will be complete.

  • The link to switch to modern takes me here: http://connect.garmin.com/modern/
Try putting that in your browser and see if it takes you there.

Anyone else still stuck in the classic view? I really don't care too much except functionality is slowly being lost (e.g., pulling up activities from the calendar view). I would like to switch to modern if possible.

Hi. I'm a regular user of garmin connect and want to ask why is not available today. I can see the side menu icons but when I clicked any icon, it remains in the Blue page. Any scheduled outage recently? By the way, I'm from the Philippines. Thank you.

I don't have it either. What is up.

Sounds like a problem with your browser, or maybe a Garmin problem that is region specific.

Read my post above. If you have questions about my response, then ask them. Otherwise I believe I've provided the requested information.

I have been successfully using Garmin Connect for a month now with no issues. As of yesterday, I am just seeing a blue screen with navigation icons, but none of the content widgets.

Edit: I'd like to update my post to say that my issue was caused by adblocking via DNS. Some of the scripts used to generate the page are pulled from *.addthis.com. Excluding this domain resolved my issue.

I would like an answer from Garmin. You are only guessing. I've tried different browsers. If you open a new account the modern option is there. It is not there for my existing account.

Then you've come to the wrong place. The Garmin folks don't follow this particular forum. They are mostly in the Garmin Express area. If you want an answer from them, you'll have to ask directly (call support).

Trying different browsers is my solution DELLHOBBYIST's question. Yes, and my response was an educated guess based on the behavior he was seeing and past experience. The solution posted above by NATHANM412 is also something that could be a problem. It is a guess as well, and could possibly fix his problem.

As for the modern UI not being available to you, this roll out process was announced in January. There was a post from a Garmin representative on the roll out, but it has since been edited to remove some of the details. Users have been getting transitioned over in groups since then. I was transitioned over in April, well after the first groups were. Many families have found that some of their accounts were transitioned over and others were not. Some people created new accounts in an effort to get access early, and the new accounts weren't given access to the modern interface immediately. Some of them found that their old account was given access before the new one.

Just because your old account doesn't have it does not mean that the roll out process is not still happening. Of course, that is one possibility. The other logical possibility is that I'm right and that your account hasn't been enabled yet. If I'm right, then there will be others who don't yet have access to the modern interface, and they will be transitioned over when the folks at Garmin flip the appropriate bits.

If you don't care to believe me, that is fine. If you want an actual answer from the horses mouth, you'll have to post your message where a Garmin representative is likely to see and respond to it (not in this forum) or contact Garmin support directly and ask them there.

  • Possibly a dumb question, but where exactly in Firefox did you go to add this domain into the exclusions? Thank you.
