Getting Garmin watch to pick up new HR monitor? Old one broken!

Okay so I have a Garmin FR70 and the chest strap has given up on it. I have bought a Rhythm+ arm monitor that apparently can also send to a Garmin watch.

However my watch is obviously set up to pick up my chest strap. So how do I tell it to stop looking for the chest strap signal, and instead to pick up the signal from the arm strap??

Any ideas?
  • You needed to pair the sensor to your device. Put the heart rate monitor on so that it would detect your heart rate. Then Pair the sensor. I don't have an FR70, but the menu you are looking for is most likely somewhere under Mode > Settings > Sport > Run > Heart Rate.

Thanks for the help Travis. I hadn't found that part of the menu. Sadly I got the watch "scanning" and despite the new HR monitor being on my watch said "HR monitor not found" !! Meh!

I suspect it is already paired the original monitor and I need to find some why of undoing that pairing before the new one can happen. I don't know.....

Thanks for replying. I appreciate the input. :D
  • Pairing with the old one is not retained. All you need do is have the armband transmitting and the Garmin device searching for a heart rate monitor and, if the Rhythm will work with the Garmin, it'll find it.

It may well be that the armband cannot transmit to the Garmin. Check with the Rhythm people.

Hmmmm..... what a pain. The Rhythm people assured me that the Rhythm+ would work with the Garmin watch..... Meh
  • Did you put the Rhythm+ on your arm and power it on when trying to do the pairing process? Does the red light flash to indicate it is working?
