Dakota 20 Problem With Waypoints

I have recently purchased a Dakota 20 GPS for walking to replace my Etrex. I use http://www.geocaching.com and download caches direct to my GPS.

When I connect my Dakota to my computer and a drive letter is assigned to the Dakota internal memory, under the Garmin/GPX folder I can see the xxxxx.gpx files for all the caches I have downloaded but I cannot find them on the device itself so that I can 'Go To' them or see them on a map.

When I did the same process on my old Etrex the caches were always stored on the device as Waypoints but but on the Dakota under Waypoints Manager nothing appears.

Also on the Etrex if I exported (from Quo) a Route to the GPS then I could also see all the route waypoints jeld under Waypoints but again under Waypoints Manager on the Dakota I cannot see any Waypoints for Routes I have downloaded from my PC.

Am I missing something on my Dakota or doing something wrong?

Thanks if anybody can help
  • I guess you had an old Etrex ... on the newer Garmins geocaches have their own icon, they don't appear in Waypoint Manager. If you do a Where to and search through you should find them.

Ok thanks SUSSAMB for your reply.

I try Where To and hunt through for geocaches.

So how about second part of my question? Routes have Waypoints right. So when you download a Route onto the GPS you should also be able to see it's Waypoints yes? So when I download my Routes onto my Dakota 20 where do I find the Waypoints, they are not under Waypoint Manager?
  • Sorry, missed that. If they are part of the route they won't be sent individually, so they won't appear in Waypoint Manager.
