New activity type: Orienteering

First off, thank you for a useful web application to keep track of my activities.

One of the few minor annoyances I have is that during summer most of my recorded activities are during orienteering (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orienteering) and it would be nice to be able to categorize them as such. Currently I'm using "trail running" as a workaround.

Yep, I want this too. Why can i categorize and activity as "stand up paddle boarding" and not "orienteering".
In fact why do i only have a limited choice of activities to categorize as? I should be able to categorize it as anything i want to.

    Ahha - just saw this!

    Yes, please add "Orienteering"

    Thank you.
  • I requested this in 2006 or 2007. I couldn't believe it when I saw the new option for SUP. What sport lends itself better to the marriage of putting a GPS track of a race or workout on a map than orienteering?

    Thanks for reconsidering this request.

I agree. Please let us edit the activity type! This is so basic...

    I agree. Please add orienteering

  • As a wrokaround, you can simply use a tag in the name of  your orienteering runs (for example [OR]), and then, on the main Activties page, use filter out only your orienteering runs by entering the tag [OR] into the search box

    Thanks. Nice piece of advice.

Yet I would like Garmin to add it. I mean...you can choose stand up paddling :-)

  • Yes, please add. I experience that Garmin connect reports results are then grouped together as "running", which makes them skewed. Orienteering running is completely different from pounding the concrete, trackrunning or trailrunning - those kinds of running are much more similar and stats can go together - like average pace, average cadence, etc. When you mix in orienteering as one type of running, those reports are not usable anymore.

Does anyone have any ideas for workaround on this?

And also, this must apply for OCR (obstacle course running) as well, right?

If you do not use all of the available running outdoor subcategories, then assign one of them for your orienteering activites, to keep separate reports for them.

    There is Obstacle Running subcategory.
