Elevation issue

I have just uploaded a ride which shows an elevation gain of 1,356m where the personal record shows this ride and an elevation gain of 1639m - I also loaded it to Strava and it shows an elevation gain of 1639m
  • Why is the elevation recorded incorrectly? The details on the device Garmin 800) shows 1639m not 1,356m that shows on garmin connect?
  • How do you know it's not correct? You get different numbers because Garmin Connect is recomputing the altitude gain from a map and the track. So you get a different number. It's not supposed to do that with an Edge 800, since it's supposed to just accept the number from anything with a barometric altimeter. But it's been screwed up for a while now with the transition to Modern Garmin Connect, so you never know what it's going to do.

Thanks - the odd thing is the value for the personal climbing record is the value in the garmin while the ride details are have the different value
