Garmin Express - stalls when trying to sync with exisiting account

I've just purchased a Forerunner 620 and am having all sorts of difficulties. This is my first Garmin device (apart from a simple GPS back in 1999!) so apologies in advance if these questions are really basic. I have searched for answers in the FAQs and other sources but failed to find anything.

My first problem is that after connecting mY 620 to my laptop (I do get a "device found message"), I'm then asked to "Sync with Garmin Account" and I select the "Sync with existing account" option (I've just created an account) This pops up a blank screen....which stays blank!

Any suggestions?
