Garmin Connect / Upload not working

Former Member

It appears that Garmin wanted to do an update to the manner in which the "Upload" function was accessed. Unfortunately, at least in my experience, they seemed to have screwed up what was a perfectly functioning feature before this supposed update. All I get now is a redirect to a page that informs me that I need to update my software and re-sync. Fine. I did that and, surprise; when I go back to the home page and go to "Upload", I once again get redirected to that same page. I'm curious as to whether this is something only I'm experiencing or a known issue. If the latter, does anyone have a solution to get past this nuisance?

Come on Garmin - any update would be nice.

Clearly there is an issue - thankfully Strava accepts .fit files so manual uploads away!

    Garmin Connect Upload Downtime?

Thought it was just me until I stumbled upon this thread. Rather appreciate everyone sharing their experiences.

Odd thing was that it worked flawlessly until yesterday but this morning I've tried Bluetooth, WiFi and even tried to manually upload the .fit file to the Garmin Connect website without any avail.

I do understand that with technology there are always hiccups. Could this be a scheduled down time?
  • Another +1. Don't know of many companies who accept their cloud service being actually down for hours. But, hey, wait. It's just the part of the site users see *after* they bought a device. I bet the service behind garmin.com is being monitored more closely since it does all the marketing.
At least some banner like "Site is down for mainteneance" or "Sorry, we're experiencing technical issues with the upload service" would help people a lot instead of making them try again and again, wasting precious time.

Also poor logging in Garmin Express:

No error code, reason, whatsoever. Just "Failed". Love my Garmin Edge, no comment on the software and service.

Same here. Garmin Express says that the device has been synched but activities are not uploaded. Manual upload just spins forever.
  • Something odd - Edge says "ride uploaded" over wifi, ride is on Strava but no sign on Garmin Connect. Glad it's not just me...
  • I wiresharked the connection while syncing. This is the last JSON object being received by the Garmin Express client after the POST:

    {"detailedImportResult":{"uploadId":990816280,"owner":3224031,"fileSize":77705,"processingTime":1197,"creationDate":"2014-08-26 09:55:17.538 GMT","ipAddress":"212.51.14.133,","fileName":"connectapi.garmin.com/.../upload","report":{"@class":"uploadReport","entries":[],"createdOn":"2014-08-26 09:55:17.61 GMT","children":[],"userProfileId":3224031},"successes":[],"failures":[{"internalId":574925267,"externalId":"2014-08-26T05:31:53Z","messages":null}]}}

I guess "messages:null" says there is no detailed response from the backend service either :-(
  • Same thing over here. Not even a manual upload works. Fortunately i have opened a Strava account a few days ago!!! Garmin is not reliable!

Same here too. Oddly my upload appeared on Strava with the sync from Garmin connect .... so it must have uploaded ....

Garmin, your customer support is appalling! Sort it out or at least let us all know what is going on .....
  • Same problem here. Just adding my post to help show whoever moderates the Garmin forums that we have been disappointed with the software for a while now!
