How to upload new data on the new Modern Connect Site

So on the original site (classic) I would upload data using this

i.e the upload button

I dont understand how I can upload data on the new modern site, short of switching temporarily to the classic site.

I use a Forerunner 610 which couples with my Mac via ANT agent

Really appreciate any help.
  • You can't. It's a known error and is apparently going to be corrected at some point. For now use the work around you mention. See here:

  • They've hidden the equivalent of the "Upload" button, but it's still there. Go to your Dashboard, click on "Activities" (upper left of the activities panel), and on the Activities page you'll see on the upper right "Import". That's the Upload button, and it's the only place it still appears so far as I know.
  • Previously, using the Upload button would activate the Garmin Communicator Plugin to download activities from your device. Garmin has stopped supporting the Garmin Communicator Plugin, and has introduced Garmin Express to replace it. When using the modern Garmin Connect, you need to be using the Garmin Express software to manage your device and device data.

If you already have the fit/gpx/tcx file that you want to manually upload, then the import link mentioned above is the way to do it.

I see that works for files stored on your computer, any advice on what to do if the activities are not automatically uploaded to Connect from your device?

This has happened me in the past and I have used the upload button to get them off. I now have to switch back to classic view to extract them from my device if they are not automatically uploaded.
  • TRAVIS,
You mentioned that Garmin stopped supporting Communicator Plug-in, yet it continues to be available for download on Garmin's site (and has been working just fine until now). I am still stuck in "classic" mode waiting for my account to be updated. Up until today, Upload worked great; it would find my FR110 and transfer the data. But starting today, when I click Upload, it takes me back to the Garmin Connect homepage (although still shows me logged in).

I installed Garmin Express, and after waiting forever for it to install and find my device, I get a "device found...error contacting Garmin servers". So even Express can't upload. Do you think this is why the Upload button/Communicator plug-in is also failing? Perhaps a problem with Garmin's back-end servers? Any thoughts are appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Jason
  • Yes, it's still available, and it still works. But they announced towards the end of last year (October?) that there were no longer supporting it (search the forums, where the announcement occurred). I don't think Modern uses it at all. They want you to use Express, but let's hope that they keep the option of doing manual uploads for people who can't use Express or (like me) don't want every device tied to Connect but still want to occasionally upload a track from, say, my VIRB Elite.

The transition from Classic to Modern has not be a model of precision and competence. So maybe they broke the Upload in Classic, the same way they've broken other things in Classic. We can only hope they'll fix it soon. Or it's possible that some server went down, and it's already back up.

You can't still navigate to the folder on your device that contains the activities? Or isn't your device one of those which mounts as a disk?
  • This is really not working. I have my old FR305 at work and I am behind a proxy. I don't want to be taking the watch home for uploads and Garmin Express does not support setting a proxy server.

As of now I can still upload via the browser plugin (although have to navigate to "old" GC layout all the time) but am concerned that down the road this functionality will be removed.
