How to default Details>Timing>Pace ?

"Speed" doesn't really make sense when it comes to walking/running.

How can we set the default to "Pace"...how do we make this persistent?

What is the activity type I find that my bike rides default to speed and my runs to pace. Also what device are you using?

Garmin Forerunner 610 with latest firmware update. I use a foot pod and HR chest band.
