Location, location, location

I don't live in London Garmin Connect, in fact you should know this as I have my location on my profile and have countless runs, rides and routes originating from my house, hundreds of miles away from London in the North East. So how do I change the route start up page when I want to create a new route to where I live as default instead of richmond?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Cheers

  • You shouldn't have to do anything. I'm using Chrome and IE and when I create a new course the map is zoomed in to the nearest city to me. Most likely the initial map position is based on the geolocation data for the IP address you are using. You might be able to see a problem by looking at this page.

  • Hi Travis - I have the same problem - I ran your link above and it gives me 3 locations Wantage, Winchester and Cross (Cross says its UK but shows Manitoba Canada on the map !!) Winchester is nearest to my current location but if I go to create a course then it still starts with central london as a default location. This is using firefox but I'm sure that IE gave the same results in the past
  • Other threads pointing this out - I found when looking into why mine always defaults to Birmingham - reason is probably down to a) it's your ISP's location and b) nobody in Garmin cares about fixing the bugs, just making it more social (Facebook and Twitter integration) - it's annoying as it'd be so easy to resolve.
  • I think this is actually a feature that just isn't working correctly for some people. I was recently on vacation, and when I went to create a course the map defaulted to an approximation of my current location. It was kinda handy, but I can understand how it would be frustrating if it was consistently wrong.
  • Mine always defaults to London as well and I would love for it to default to my home location. Google Maps seems to be able to do this quite well.
  • Hi Travis - you're right that it isn't working for some people but it is independent of the machine used (in my case anyway) - using your link above my current IP location shows 2 x locations of Manchester and one of London but I am actually near to Gatwick Airport (about 30 miles outside London). Google maps shows my location directly but Garmin Connect still defaults me to central London.
