Trying to figure out how my new records were calculated

I did a speed workout last night. It consisted of a 1 mile warm up, 12 x 400m, and a 1 mile cool down. My 620 froze after the 2nd or 3rd repeat and I had to do a reset. The activity was still there when it restarted so I was able to pick up where I left off. Things did get a little wonky and I ended up doing an extra repeat somehow. I either lost count when the Garmin froze or something similar. Anyway, after I was done I got an alert that I had 3 new records, 1mi, 5k, & 10k. It's saying I have a new 1mi record of 0:31, a new 5k of 19:08, and a new 10k of 46:51. I'm not sure where it's coming up with those because I definitely didn't do any of those distances in any of those times. Below is a link to the workout, I would really appreciate it if someone could help shed some light on how it's calculating those times and distances.

  • Was the alert displayed on your Garmin device, or in Garmin Connect? If you go to your dashboard, it should display all of your PRs and the activities that they were generated from. Do the 1mi, 5K and 10K PRs link off to your Speed Work (12 x 400m) activity or something else?

The way that the Personal Records are supposed to work, you shouldn't be able to get a 1mi, 5K and 10K PR from the same activity since the activity distance would have to be approximately 1mi, 5K and 10K long at the same time... impossible.

I'm hoping that they each link to some other activity. If that is the case then the message you saw wasn't indicating that you got the PR from that one activity, it just indicated that Garmin Connect finally got around to processing your existing data for records.

It first alerted me on my 620 when the activity was completed, then once the activity was uploaded to Garmin Connect it prompted me to update my records with the new times. All three were from the same activity. I told Garmin Connect to disregard the new times and keep my previous ones but I'm still curious where the watch came up with those numbers. Only thing I can think of is it somehow disregarded my 90 sec RI and combined my 400m repeats to one longer run. I used the interval workout feature built into the watch but it doesn't seem like it should be doing that.
