Personal Records/General disappointment in Garmin Connect

I ran a new 5k PR. Connect wouldn't even recognize that I'd done it, I had to flag it manually. I ran 5.3k, it now displays my total time for 5.3k as my PR, not just how fast I ran 5k. Do I really have to end my run at exactly 5k?

I would also like to know why average pace is not an option for a parameter for when I create a report? There are many parameters such as average speed but not pace?

I am new to Garmin from Nike and so far I have to say I am extremely disappointed in Garmin connect. The Nike+ interface is 100 times what connect is. I am happier with my device so far but you guys really should check out the nike+ webpage.

It's because of the extra mileage that it didn't see your PR. Flagging manually isn't a big deal as it's common to not hit "exactly 5k" in a 5k race, especially if you're really good at clipping the apexes.

Average pace is there, you just need to poke around and then select it.

Garmin is currently updating the Connect Site to "Garmin Modern", it's not done yet but it does look like it will be a lot more user friendly.

For the first 2 months I used my Fr220 it or GC would 'pull out' record runs from within longer runs.
I think I got 3 from the same 8km run.
No new records have been allocated to me since moving to moden.
I have to do more testing before calling Support.
  • PRs on Garmin Connect is a joke. Use Endomondo or anther services for better stats.
  • I think it's a little unfair to say that PR's are a joke on Garmin - I may be in a minority but I prefer them to applications like Strava. A PR in Connect is much more like a true PR that I would set by running a race whereas Strava will give me a PR for running 1 mile down hill as part of a longer run which is of absolutely no value to me as a PR.
  • Also I've never seen the behaviour above mentioned by ZUKJEFF on connect with my 610 - maybe that is a 220 function
  • I do race walking, and record all my times and distances under "Speed Walking" but there appears to be no way of recording Personal Records other than in Running or Cycling.

Is there any way of setting up Speed Walking Personal Records?

I did a 5K race recently (well, 5.2K). It was a PR but it wasn't recognised by Garmin (it was 2-3 minutes better than recorded time even with extra 200m). When I MANUALLY (c'mon, its 21st century, why I have to manually compare activities) set PR - it was set for 5K, but time was used for all 5.2m. Garmin didn't adjusted it. So I manually checked in lap stats what was actual 5K time and set it. Completely useless and frustrating.

The cycling PRs don't even make sense and there is no way to create new "templates" for PRs you want to capture.

    The complete list:
    - 40 KM (Time and Avg. Speed)
    - Elevation Gain (in a single ride/activity)
    - Farthest (Distance in a single ride/activity)
    - Max Avg. Power (20 minutes)

Really? That's all the PRs a cyclist could/would be interested in?

There is no average pace, only average speed.

I'm having this issue as well, I set all new PRs at my half marathon last month, but this month it won't recognize new PRs, whether part or whole of a new activity.
