Can't get workout to load on to Fenix 2

I created a workout, saved it, and when I hit "send to device", nothing happens. After I disconnect the watch and look under "my workouts", it says that there are no workouts there. I have updated the software from the website to my watch, so I know the watch is connected to the computer properly, I think!
I don't know about the Fenix, but at one point this post indicated that Garmin Express couldn't be used to upload data to Forerunner devices (610, 310XT, 910XT, ...). Supposedly this functionality was forthcoming, but nobody is really saying anything about if/how this will work or what the requirements are.
It would be really nice if the folks at Garmin would provide a table to tell us which product combinations will and won't work. i.e., 910XT, classic Garmin Connect, Garmin Communicator & ANT Agent will allow you to upload workouts/courses to your device, but 910XT and anything else will not work.
