I have asked this question in the Edge 510 forum and been told it is most likely a Connect issue hence why I ask it here:
There are a number of ways to create a course on the Edge 510
1: Complete a ride, then create a course on the Edge 510.
2: Complete a ride, upload to Garmin Connect, "Save as Course", then download said course on the 510. This can be downloaded either directly through your computer or via Bluetooth through the Garmin Connect app on an iphone.
3: Create a new course on Connect, then download it to the 510
4: Drop a .tcx file into the NewFiles folder on the 510 through your computer.
The only reliable way (without using third party applications) out of these four options is number 1. Anytime a course goes through Connect something just does not work...
Option 2 issue: Here is a course on Connect: http://connect.garmin.com/course/5813256 which was created from an activity on Connect.
As you can see the data is correct, with elevation, distance and time all making sense. Once uploaded to the Edge the numbers show as follows:
Time: 1193:02:47
Distance: 0 feet
Laps: 0
Avg Speed: 0
Max Speed: 0
Calories: 0
Ascent: 0.0 metres
Descent 0.0 metres.
Elevation 0.0. (Elevation chart shows flat line at sea level)
Pretty useless if you ask me.
Option 3 issue: Elevation shows as 0.0 (Elevation chart shows flat line at sea level) on Connect app and on Edge device.
Option 4: Works if file is generated in something like ridewithgps. Doesn't work with all files from all sites but i assume that is due to the data in the files.
Has anyone else come across this? Garmin have told me my device is faulty and to return it however i am hesitant to do this as i think it's a software issue and do not want to be given a second hand repaired device as a replacement, particularly if there is nothing wrong with mine.
Thanks
