My elevation gain PB differs from what the route upload says it was?

Hi, I did a ride on sunday that my Garmin logged as having a 2698 elevation gain.. however, it logged into my personal best section as being 3720 for that same ride. Weirdly, that was the elevation reading i got when I uploaded the ride to strava. Why would it be giving me a personal best for that ride but quoting a completely different elevation gain? Thanks :)
  • I assume you're saying that Garmin Connect is showing a different number from your Garmin device? Elevation correction must be on, and Garmin Connect recomputes the elevation gain from the GPS track and an internal map of terrain rather than just uses the number from the device. Strava probably does the same thing, and it may be using the same map that Garmin does. If you want a bigger number, try RunKeeper. They always overstate the elevation gain (it's telling me 1900+ ft for the ride I took this morning which my Edge 800 gave as 1073 ft). In the past Garmin Connect only turned on elevation correction by default for devices that don't have a barometric altimeter, but that's been screwed up recently with the switch to Modern.
