Garmin Connect Modern Issues, Errors, and Failures

Appears that Garmin is trying to make improvements to Connect and device connectivity. However, they have stepped backwards to the point that they have released something that does not function correctly and wasting consumers time. Have switched back to the original connect, as the modern connect links fails or errs to the point that is is not usable or does not provide the recorded data or connectivity that we use to experience and expect. Now the Original Connect does not show charts of the data recorded and uploaded. Do not feel this is even a Beta release it is so bad. Anyone have any thoughts or experiencing the same problems?

Just started to look at the new connect, it is slow, i like the look so i hope it will get better, and PB (records ) is not working.
  • 1. Most of the widgets / portlets favour running, swimming or cycling. I also row at home but the reports don't include Rowing as part of your totals (distance or time). Garmin please recognise other sports as being counted in your totals.
    2. Everything thats classed as fitness equipment gets a barbell icon - any chance of something more activity specific

    Exactly my problem too
  • I switched and uploaded data from my Edge 705 successfully. Not so good with my 310XT though, finds the device but will not pair. Now my XT doesn't even work when I go back to the 'old' connect. Anyone know what I can do to fix this? Thanks.

I have exactly the same problems, worked OK to begin with but now cannot access any of my uploaded data
  • A few comments about the new modern connect:

    1. I find it very slow compared to the classic version.

    2. I don't see an easy way to get back to the main screen after opening one of the options on the sidebar (activities etc.)

    3. The main screen doesn't size well. I have a view of my recent activities but can't read the titles because they're truncated to fit in the block. I removed several of the views that I don't use and this one doesn't resize. I just end up with blank spaces.

    4. The update notification keeps showing me 18 updates but they're all for languages that I don't use. I don't see any way to mark them to be ignored or something.\

    5. This auto sync with Garmin Express rather than manual import is a good idea but it would be good to still have the manual connect to device and upload function for when you're at a PC without Garmin Express. Also, a more descriptive name would be good, even if it's just the date and time of the ride.

Click the word CONNECT near the top left of the page.

If you want to see your full activity titles, go to the activities page.

Are you able to click the sync icon (the two diagonal arrows) on the button bar on the left side and then click the X next to each update to reject them?

    Thanks. I guess I don't like the Windows8/Smartphone style.

It would be good to be able to at least read the titles.

Yes, I didn't find that obvious either. I guess it's a matter of getting used to the UI. I'm a software engineer so I know that the definition of user friendly has changed recently.

Although now that I've clicked that "x" my garmin seems to be syncing for over an hour. I will have to kill that soon to go for my ride. Doesn't look good.

How does one switch back to the classic mode?
  • Hi - I'm having a couple of issues with Garmin Connect:

I often can't see calorie counts - both in the weekly totals and for the individual activities on Garmin Connect (modern) - sometimes they're missing from my 620 but show up from the 910XT, other times the 910 disappears. They appear to be on the watches themselves, though and they are now appearing for last week (at least for the moment) when they were missing there before.

Also, I did a 'quick edit' on an activity from the 620 today and now that activity has disappeared completely from the calendar view (though if I use the Next Activity/Right Arrow to try to get to it from the previous activity, it will show up in the full edit window.

Will these issues be addressed? Soon, I hope??
