Garmin Connect Modern Issues, Errors, and Failures

Appears that Garmin is trying to make improvements to Connect and device connectivity. However, they have stepped backwards to the point that they have released something that does not function correctly and wasting consumers time. Have switched back to the original connect, as the modern connect links fails or errs to the point that is is not usable or does not provide the recorded data or connectivity that we use to experience and expect. Now the Original Connect does not show charts of the data recorded and uploaded. Do not feel this is even a Beta release it is so bad. Anyone have any thoughts or experiencing the same problems?
  • When I bought my Garmin I used it with the software that was available then, two years ago, and it was great. NOw we're somewhere in the cloud.

Ranting won't get you anywhere. If you'd like help you need to ask a question.
  • It would not load on my instance of Chrome on OSX Mavericks at all until I white listed the site in a blocker called Disconnect. Sorted now.

I hate Modern - Classic wasn't broken, so idk why they thought they had to "fix' it. One benefit to Modern was supposed to be that we did not have to upload our activites any longer - they would just appear once we connected our device. Mine are not there (but they are on Classic, when I upload as usual). Unfortunately, Classic will not be available soon - and we will be stuck with their Modern mishap. I will be contacting Garmin for twchnical help and to voice my opinion - the more voices the better...

So far ive just plugged my 510 into strava, but after becoming a little disillusioned, i thought id use garmin connect instead. First thing i saw was some modern looking, smart-phone inspired abomination. Absolutely useless, horrible to look at and not at all user friendly. Switched back to classic and its much better!

Garmin, you dont HAVE to make things look like a smart phone. If it aint broke, dont fix it!

Trying to add workouts to my Forerunner 410 on the new software, but no joy. Can't get back to the old system to do anything other than look at the old style screens. Any advice?

Couple of observations from using Modern for a few days (less than impressed - but has potential).

    1. Most of the widgets / portlets favour running, swimming or cycling. I also row at home but the reports don't include Rowing as part of your totals (distance or time). Garmin please recognise other sports as being counted in your totals.
    2. Everything thats classed as fitness equipment gets a barbell icon - any chance of something more activity specific (an Erg for rowing ????)
    3. Future Goals don't show on your calendar view
    4. If you connect to the MyFitness app (new feature) you don't automigically get trackin on the web site (seems to track on the Android app)
    5. Might just be me but it seems very slow

    Hi,

I just tried the modern version and cannot upload anything from work. The Classic version has no problems uploading. Garmin express shows the error 'There was a problem communicating with the Garmin servers: please try again later'. I suspect the problem is caused by the company proxy. I cannot set anything for proxy in Garmin express!! My company uses an automatic proxy config file.

I changed to modern and now ALL of my data is gone!!! It says garmin connect hasnt received my data yet. How the hell do I turn back to classic to see if all my data is still there?!

I find the modern version quite confusing. I upload my data and go to garmin connect. You wind up in the modern version. I want to view the data and click on what I thought would show more detail. Instead I wind up with a bing map of rides/runs in my local area. I have to switch to the old view to get what I want. They need to improve navigation a bit and also forget about the icons. I am still trying to figure out what they mean.
