Garmin Connect Modern Issues, Errors, and Failures

Appears that Garmin is trying to make improvements to Connect and device connectivity. However, they have stepped backwards to the point that they have released something that does not function correctly and wasting consumers time. Have switched back to the original connect, as the modern connect links fails or errs to the point that is is not usable or does not provide the recorded data or connectivity that we use to experience and expect. Now the Original Connect does not show charts of the data recorded and uploaded. Do not feel this is even a Beta release it is so bad. Anyone have any thoughts or experiencing the same problems?

The modern view seems to have thrown together in a rush to "catch up" with the ever evolving mobile world and other fitness websites like Strava. It's a sloppy effort with very little thought and trying its best to assume what the user wants. The rollout itself has been a disaster after being announced in Jan 14, there are still plenty of users who haven't been switched, the communication and support is even worse. Where's the interaction with your customers on this forum Garmin? I don't see it.

What they've done is essentially put a fresh coat of paint on a damaged wall, change has got to come from the bottom up. They've simply "embedded" all the old functionality inside a webpage and given it a new style.

For a website of such magnitude of which hundreds of thousands of customers depend on every day, it's not good enough. It wasn't built with scalability in mind, it's too slow and now I can see from the segment feature being down that they're really starting to struggle with volume.

The social features in Connect are completely trumped by the likes of Strava and that's why people are starting to move, they didn't keep up.

It's a shame because the watches are good but the software isn't up to scratch and when folks are using your hardware but switching over to a competitor for alternative software, something's not quite right and is really starting to damage their reputation.

Personally, I'm using Strava now for all my logging and analysis, Garmin is now simply storing my activities as a buffer before it's automatically synched with Strava. The existing connect solution will not stand the test of time unless serious changes are made, needs a complete redevelopment in my opinion.

To get back to "classic" use the following link to start connect:

    http://connect.garmin.com/dashboard

Expect that stop working as soon as they classify it as a bug.

Modern is absolutely Pants! Gone back to classic. :)
  • This - except now using strava is a pita because Garmin has ALSO changed their API in such a way that strava can no longer access the data without a clunky third-party provider. Weak.

Open your API, Garmin, and take advantage of the enormous community that would build your apps FOR YOU.

Came here to say the same thing. The only way to see my data again in Chrome was to whitelist the site in Ghostery. Not impressed, went back to Classic mode. In IE10, the site threw javascript errors when I clicked a friend's link to see their run workout.

Hope Classic mode stays around a little longer. The most important thing a user wants on this site is to SEE the data from the workout that just got uploaded. Without all the fluffy Windows 8 Modern style boxes. I also liked seeing several of the prior workouts all together with "mini stats" right there in the same place at a glance. Now I get a big 'ol tile for the last run, and then a calendar tile with a bunch of blue highlights and no other data. Meh.
  • Agreed that Classic is better.
Two particular issues, hinted at above. 1. The front page is clunky. All sorts of things I don't want. Even when we delete some the others stay small and there's no way to resize what's left. 2. The weight history chart only goes back one year. In classic it went back "forever." I've been working on my weight for a while and it's motivating to go back and see the whole chart from the beginning. And there's no easy way to access the older data.

I used to upload activities from my device via the upload button as they never got transferred automatically to my profile. I can't find that function in the modern version, so once the classic version seizes to exist I won't be able to transfer my files to my profile anymore… :(
  • There is an 'Import' button in the Activities tab ... so you're OK :)

Switching back to classic. Creating a course on modern only uses 2/3 of the screen height. Don't like the design anyhow. I don't get why everything should look by default like it's programmed for mobile devices.
