Elevation issues ??

My Garmin has a barometric altimeter and Garmin Connect says that I shouldn't have to use the websites elevation auto correct for accurate elevation readings. But my Garmin (Edge 500) reads about double the elevation gain than the Garmin Connect website says I'm getting. I was just wondering which one should i trust.
