How to upload activities in the new modern view?

I like the look of the new "Modern view" Garmin Connect, but trying to work out how to do what I have done in the old version!

I'm struggling to find a button to upload my activities. I can see an area for my devices and it seems that using Garmin Express, I can identify the devices, but it seems that when I do that, everything will just sync automatically. Sounds good, but it's not what I want. I share an Edge bike computer with my wife, so we only want to upload our own activities. Not a problem previously as we could select "Upload selected activities", but it now just wants to sync everything. I'm sure the facility must be there somewhere to upload only selected activities from the device - please can someone point me in the right direction.

Thank you so much. I was switching to the old version to manually add. I let the battery run down or forget to start my watch at times and this was the only way to keep up with my activities.
  • Yes please, is there an easier way b/c I'm trying to upload directly from my Fenix too and it doesn't work :/. Come on Garmin, help us out!

It appears you can do as others have suggested in the new Modern interface to "upload". In Windows XP, Garmin Express is not supported, so you need to do one of these. 1) Go to Activities and click import, click choose file, find your Garmin (mounted as a drive), drill down and open up the activities folder and locate the files you want. I sorted by date since it's not obvious which file is which. or 2) Switch back to the "old" interface and click "upload". I don't know why Garmin ruined a good thing with the old upload process, it knew my Garmin was connected and knew which activities were already uploaded. Garmin, if you read this, please fix it so that it's a one click upload process like it was in the old interface. Strava has a one click process, I may opt to go that route if Garmin Connect continues to be a laborious effort just to upload activities.
  • Yep, Travis is correct its now called "import" and on the activities page. I'll pass the feedback along about the device-sharing with Garmin Express.

Well, that's awkward. What about an import option from the gear icon, along with Add Manual Activity, etc.?

I don't really get the upload process from the new Garmin Connect. Is it intended that the only option is to go to Import and then select the activity on the USB drive representing the device? The sync option always says "nothing to sync", even if the device is connected and has new activities.

I am still using the upload process from the Classic version of Garmin Connect, hope that function gets somehow ported before they switch off the Classic view.

    Cheers, Robert
  • Well, the upload process is not supposed to require you to do any manual Upload/Import. If you have Garmin Express installed and configured, it should detect your device, download the activities and then upload them to Garmin Connect.

Thanks, I get it now. Garmin Express was the missing piece. :)

Apparently Garmin Express is supported in XP with SP3.

The change to GE etc is called progress. Having operating systems that are 10+ years old is a little challenging on many different levels, expecially as the old software tends to be tied to old hardware too.

My express on any given will not sync with my 510 so I have to go back to the old connect dash board, what happens when we can no longer access the dashboard. Just add an upload feature Garmin...Not like we don't spend the money on our product al ready. I have not found an easy way to upload from the new dashboard.

I tried to upload my 510 using the new platform and Garmin Express but it wouldn't work. I learned that it will not upload using FireFox. I had to upload it in Chrome. This is very inconvenient. The old platform worked great.
