How to upload activities in the new modern view?

I like the look of the new "Modern view" Garmin Connect, but trying to work out how to do what I have done in the old version!

I'm struggling to find a button to upload my activities. I can see an area for my devices and it seems that using Garmin Express, I can identify the devices, but it seems that when I do that, everything will just sync automatically. Sounds good, but it's not what I want. I share an Edge bike computer with my wife, so we only want to upload our own activities. Not a problem previously as we could select "Upload selected activities", but it now just wants to sync everything. I'm sure the facility must be there somewhere to upload only selected activities from the device - please can someone point me in the right direction.

+1 this question. Also is it possible to manually upload .fit files?

PeakyG - it sounds like Garmin are wanting you to purchase one device per person. <sarcasm>I mean, come on, how dare you share the device with your wife? You're obviously too poor to be a Garmin customer.</sarcasm>

Yes - it does seem Garmin don't understand the idea of sharing a device - looks like they have gone all Apple!

No-one else found a way to upload individual activities in the new interface?

I would also love to have the upload button on the 'modern' garmin connect. Not because I share my device, but as a handy way to get around all the glitches I seem to get with garmin express. I often have to revert to the old garmin connect, just to upload data because garmin express chooses not to work on a given day.

I have not been able to upload a single run on the new version of Garmin Connect. I have had to resort to the old version every time. Is the function working for other people, or is it just me?

You used to be able to manually add an activity from the activity list page. With modern view the only way to do it is to go to the little "Activity" window that appears on the main page. Click on the "gear" and then you will see an option to "Add Manual Activity". I attached a screenshot. It took me a while to find it too! Also...beware....with the modern version when you manually add an activity it does not honor your privacy settings - all mine were added as 'viewable to everyone' so if that's not what you want then you have to manually change it to "only me" (or whatever your setting is).

Oops...sorry, I thought you wanted to manually add an activity. All my activities automatically upload with Garmin Express without issue, but no, I cannot select individual activities to upload anymore either.
  • If you want to do a manual upload from the modern Garmin Connect, you need to go to the activities page and click the Import link near the top-right of the activities list.

    Travis
  • Yep, Travis is correct its now called "import" and on the activities page. I'll pass the feedback along about the device-sharing with Garmin Express.

Ah...ha! Thank you! I too was having to switch back to do manual uploads.

Dear Garmin - not everyone has a Windows or Mac box. We need manual upload to do this from Linux!

Having gone to the Activities list and selected "Import", all I see is the option to manually upload files (including the .FIT format files) from my computer. That means I have to copy the files (copy & paste) from my Edge 500 plugged in via a USB cable onto my hard drive then copy them again into Garmin Connect.
Even with the device plugged in, Garmin Connect does not recognize it although the computer does.
Surely there's an easier way to do it.

The option "uploading from my computer" is a kind of misleading. When I have my Forerunner 110 connected via a usb cable to my computer, a Mac, the Forerunner is seen as an external disk by the computer. Therefore I don't have co to copy (as you wrote) the files to the computer and then copy them again to Garmin Connect: I can upload them straight forward, by selecting them from the "external drive" Forerunner 110. TRy to see whether your computer also see your device as sort of external disk.
