Approach S4 Not Uploading to Garmin Connect Modern Version

I have the Garmin Forerunner 620 and it connects easily with the new "modern" version of Garmin Connect. I have all my running widgets inside a "Running" tab and they work fine. This weekend I played my first round of golf with my new Garmin Approach S4. I had previously registered it via Garmin Express and linked the new device to my existing Garmin Connect account. I set up a new "golf" tab with a variety of scorecard and scoring widgets. Both Garmin Express and Garmin Connect "see" my S4 device and the SS# and ID#s are correct. However, I could not get the scorecard from my S4 over to Garmin Connect via Garmin Express. Both say there is no data to upload. The scorecard is on the S4 watch and I can see the scorecard file on my PC. After spending, oh maybe an hour and a half, on the phone with Garmin Tech support (all very nice and professional and trying to be helpful) I learned that the S4 has a bug that it will not initially upload to Garmin Connect until I have played my second or more rounds. So, I'm eagerly awaiting either a software update or my second round of golf, whichever comes first. Since the S4 hasn't been out that long, I thought I'd post this to help others new to the S4 to avoid needless frustration. I do think both devices are great as is the S4 but this software issue is something that could have been avoided through more thorough software testing in the development stage and I believe that Garmin should rush out a fix ASAP before other new users start needlessly bashing the entire product over one glitch.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger

I have the new Garmin Approach G8 and basically have the same problem. However, Express uploaded my first round, but I cannot get it to upload my second round. Like you, both Express & Connect recognize my device. But it says "No items to sync". This thing cost me $399, so I'm not going to wait too long before i start bashing.

Sounds like we have similar issues. Garmin really needs to jump on this as the S4 is so new out. If they wait too long they are going to have a real PR issue on their hands.
  • I doubt if the S4 team monitor these forums, which with a few exceptions are mainly user-to-user. Both of you should raise this with Product Support, either through e mail or by phone, so that a support ticket is raised

I was on the phone with them for about an hour and a half this morning. It was they who told me that I'd have to play another round of golf to fix the issue. Go figure. Having said that, they were very professional and as helpful as they could be.

    Garmin Connect Sync Issues Solved!

Thanks to everyone for the comments. I thought I was crazy earlier today. I spent a few hours trying to sync my round today. After reading the posts, I turned in my Approach G7 and entered scores for a nine hole course. After closing it, my G7 immediately synced and I can now see my round from today. I know it doesn't make sense but it worked and I now see my stats!!

I have just bought an S4 thinking I could save / upload score cards via the blue tooth connectivity to my smart phone like the edge 510. Unfortunately, this does not appear to be the case or am I missing something?

Anybody got any clues how this is supposed to play out?

    Regards
