Incorrect Miles & map of ride

I loaded my garmin 800 and viewed results which showed that I had 5 more miles than another rider using a garmin 800. My map showed that I went 3 miles further out from our lunch stop. It acted as if it was recording another rider passing by. First time this happened. Lou
