Elevation recording on the Forerunner 10

My Garmin Forerunner 10 records elevation on some runs but not others. I can't seem to find any setting on the device to engage or disengage this function. I would like to be able to track this for my hill runs. Can't find any instructions regarding elevation settings or altitude in the owners manual. Anyone have any advice. Thanks, Olivia

I'm having the same issue. Last year on version 2.10 every single run I did recorded elevation, now only a third of my runs seem to have it. Very very frustrating. Hopefully someone will know the answer
  • This post may hold the answer for some of you.

ooo thank you. Hopefully that means it will be back to normal soon. Doesn't explain why its not been working for some since November though. Fingers crossed the new site will remove the issue once and for all

Does this mean that the missing elevation information from the past few months will reappear or only that newly uploaded runs will have elevation info? I'm a bit confused as to how the info appears if it's not saved in the device.
  • It is my understanding that the Forerunner 10 doesn't do elevation, just position. When you upload data to Garmin, it fills in rough elevation data based on the position and a database of elevation points just like it would if you enabled the elevation correction button with any activity recorded with any other Garmin device.

Garmin hasn't said what will happen to activities uploaded today. They could run a script against their database to automagically fill in the elevation data, or they could require you to manually upload all of the activity files again. We'll just have to wait and see.

Is there a place we can check to see if/when the problem is fixed? Thanks for your help! I did a serious hill run yesterday and was SO hoping to see the elevation. Do you know if it's possible to export runs as they are now to an outside website/map to get elevation readings? I tried with no success yesterday.
  • I would check the post that I linked to above. If Garmin makes a fix they aren't going to want a post laying around that says the functionality is still broken. I don't know why you wouldn't be able to export your run. I'm having no problem exporting my runs.
